Anesthesia Options

Your Comfort Is Important to Us

Anesthesia is a type of preventive drug given to patients in a gas or injection form to generate a painless and comfortable atmosphere when receiving oral surgery. There are four specific types of anesthesia that our practice administers to patients at Fresno Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Implant Center. Our oral surgeons will discuss anesthesia options with you during your consultation before your surgical operation.

Local anesthesia, IV sedation, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) with local anesthesia, and general anesthesia are the four types our oral surgeons trust. Drs. Chien, Kheradpir, Barnhart, Huh, Curiel, and Salim all have years of training overseeing anesthesia in patients receiving oral surgery to preserve their smiles. You may contact one of our office staff to schedule an oral exam and consultation at any of our offices to begin creating your treatment plan, including your choice of anesthesia.

Types of Anesthesia

Our surgeons offer many options for anesthesia and sedation to ensure your comfort during treatment.

Why Go to an Oral Surgeon?

One of the biggest differences between a general dentist and an oral surgeon is that oral surgeons are trained to safely administer all forms of anesthesia. General dentists can administer local anesthesia injections, but when a patient requires more complex care, such as wisdom teeth removal, the dentist will refer the patient to an oral surgeon.

After completing dental school, oral and maxillofacial surgeons complete rigorous hands-on training that lasts from 4–6 years. During this time, they learn to administer anesthesia, monitor patients who are under anesthesia, and ensure the safety and comfort of patients at all times. This makes oral surgeons professionals when it comes to anesthetics and using them for surgery. Our team of surgeons at Fresno Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Implant Center always focus on the health and safety of our patients, and we are happy to offer options that will help patients remain comfortable and at ease while in our care.
