Healthy, Long-Term Tooth Replacement

Everyday activities such as smiling, eating, and speaking can become difficult and even embarrassing for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth. A tooth replacement option for an entire arch of teeth can be the secure, positive solution you are looking for. Instead of a removable prosthesis, such as dentures, advances in the dental industry have made it possible to restore a full upper or lower arch of teeth in a single procedure. This procedure is called a full-arch restoration, and the results are lasting, secure, and natural.

Fresno Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Dental Implant Center has multiple offices located in the central valley, where we help our patients in need of a new smile achieve greater oral health and an improved quality of life through oral surgery. If you are missing all or many of your teeth, we encourage you to give us a call. Full-arch restoration could be the right treatment that allows you to enjoy eating and smiling without hiding your teeth and without experiencing discomfort. Contact us in Fresno, Clovis, Reedley, or Madera, CA, today.

Benefits of Full-Arch Restoration

This treatment is life-changing and uses multiple dental implant posts to secure a fixed denture. The prosthesis is secured, as the implant posts fuse to the jaw bone to create a lasting foundation. There are many benefits to choosing full-arch restoration to restore your smile, including:

  • Less post-surgical discomfort and swelling
  • Shorter recovery time
  • Natural-looking teeth that are permanent, secure, and functional
  • As few as four implants can support an entire arch of teeth
  • Dental implant posts fuse to the jaw bone, preventing bone loss and maintaining good oral health

Full-Arch Restoration Procedure

For a full-arch restoration procedure, your oral surgeon will work with a restorative dentist to mold and fit a custom arch for you. Our team creates this impression after thoroughly examining your mouth and taking 3D images of your teeth and jaw. These high-resolution images tell your oral surgeon and restorative dentist the exact anatomy of your mouth and jaw, which results in a faster and more accurate procedure, and fewer unexpected surprises.

The procedure itself lasts about an hour, and you leave our office with a set of new, permanent, functional teeth. You will receive an anesthetic to prevent any discomfort. Most patients choose IV sedation, which allows the patient to be asleep and not experience any discomfort during the procedure. Your new replacement teeth can be secured immediately after your implants are placed. After your procedure, you can recover comfortably at home once the anesthesia wears off, and your chaperone can drive you home. We will provide you with thorough post-operative care instructions to ensure optimal healing.

Because the full-arch restoration procedure results in faster healing time than dental implants, you can expect a shorter recovery period of usually just a few days. With your brand new, fully functioning smile, you can eat the foods you love and smile with confidence.

What’s the Difference Between Full-Arch and Dentures?

Removable dentures sit on top of the ridge in your mouth. They can be complete dentures, which recreate the appearance of an entire arch of teeth, or partial dentures, which rest upon your existing teeth to restore the look of only a few missing teeth. Dentures should be professionally fitted, otherwise they can slide around in your mouth and cause sores. Dentures must be taken out when you eat and brush your teeth, and you must clean them using a special solution. Many patients find this embarrassing and dislike having to remove their replacement teeth throughout the day.

Additionally, dentures and bridges should be replaced every few years due to normal wear and tear. They only cosmetically restore your smile on the surface and do not fuse to the jaw bone like dental implant posts or natural tooth roots. Without the stimulation, the jaw bone atrophies, or breaks down. In severe cases, this leads to costly bone repair treatment, sagging facial features, and adjacent teeth shifting out of position.

Full-arch restoration relies on dental implant posts for support. Your oral surgeon will insert the posts and secure your custom-made denture. It is secure and does not need to be removed during eating or brushing. There are no moving parts, no sliding pieces, and no discomfort. The fixed prosthesis looks and acts like a healthy set of natural teeth, allowing you to eat your favorite food, maintain good oral hygiene as normal, and experience joy through your smile.
